When you take your licence, do the longest course you can afford prior to taking your test to give you maximum experience on the bigger bikes.
My local test centre uses cbf500s which are pretty heavy and you need to be pretty competent on a 125 before they will let you use the 500s. Most of the bike school machines are tourers and do not have the same grunt as a sportsbike, so bear that in mind after passing your test as its one thing to ride a cbf500, and another to have a go on something like a cbr600, r6 etc.
As long as you can ride the larger bike safely and have good control when riding at slow speed, you should be fine.
The bike test is going to change in March and become a lot harder and more expensive, so try to book yourself in as soon as you can.
Kit yourself out with the best helmet and protective gear you can, you cant put a price on your life!
Before buying a new bike, make sure you can fit comfortably on it with your feet able to touch the ground, because most new riders will take a spill at some point and youll need to be able to either stabilize the bike or at worse, be strong enough to pick it up from the floor!

Before you buy cheap ask yourself “How much is my head worth”

Okay so I’m sitting around and I see an ATV go down the road. And I think… hm, it is probably not legal but can I make one legal?
So for all intents and purposes I took the Honda Big Red Side-by-Side UTV “MUV” for my little experiment.
It’s actually bigger than the car I drive now, “wow, right?” and although it cannot reach 65 mph, I have read that it has gone 54 mph, which is alright if I do not use the highways as most road are 25, 35, 45 or 55 where I would be driving it.
Alright so then I went and I found my copy of the Digest of Ohio Motor Vehicle Laws (other copies could be found online), and I read about registering your vehicle and what they check for.
I’ve seen pictures of Road-legal ATVS registered in California as Motorcycles after being converted to a three-wheeler. And my first approach was to see what I could do about adjusting the Big Red to a three-wheeler, and I decided that because it is so much like a car (and would cost about the same as a car after the process was completed) I figured leave it with four wheels.
Now specifics are best left up to the book. But I have gone through and picked what would need to be present when it is checked and registered.
My list contains:
Minimum 1/16 inch treaded tires “road legal”
Primary Brake
Emergency Brake
Two Headlights
One Taillight visible 500ft away
Two Taillights visible 500ft away when brakes are applied
Illuminated Rear Registration plate
Two red reflectors (separate or apart of taillights)
Turn signals visible 300ft in normal sunlight
Safety Glass
Exhaust Pipe
Equipped with standard muffler
Rearview mirror
Windshield Wipers
Windshield Washer
Horn capable of being heard at least 200 ft
Safety Belts
Windshield
Side windows
E-Checkable Engine (Ohio Emission’s test)
Speedometer
Now if I found a way to add all these items to the Big Red, would I be allowed to register it as a car?
I understand that it is easier and almost exactly the same price as buying a small truck but I just want to know if it is possible.
Could they deny me the plates based on the fact it WAS an off-road vehicle, or would they give me them seeing as it lives up to everything a car would?

I dont care about speed and noise. what I’m more concerned about is reliability. I’ll mostly just use it to go to school and to work, maybe occasionally some long distance travel.maybe. I’ve never ridden before..what would be the best bike for me to start with?

Shoei is tops, Schuberth are good.
Fiberglass DOES make a difference, it’s more energy absorbing than the ‘bouncy’ plastics used by Arai, Nolan, Bell, and all those ‘cheapie’ asian made brands.

preferably withought being a fraud due to insurance, but if that is not possible, i would still love to make it faster because i have to get to work everyday and back using 40mph roads when i can only go 30mph, its very uncomfortable with angry drivers behind me constantly.
any help? thanks x
