i would like to know whether if i buy a mirrored visor for my helmet that is it fully mirrored( i.e if someone looks at me… they can only see themselves and not one bit of my face… or whether the effect just makes you see less of my face and is a weakish effect??

In the UK, helmets were made compulsory in 1973. Three years later in 1976 followers of the Sikh religion wearing turbans were officially exempted from the law, so strictly speaking it is not compulsory for all, just most of us!

I have recently been told by an Adelaide motorbike accessory retailer that respraying and selling motorbike helmets is not legal? I’m wondering if he just wants the business for himself?

…bike 10 times as much as those who don’t…this is because the helmet gives them a “false” impression of safety, so they take 10 times less care avoiding an accident…
(when I was growing up, only wussies wore helmets, and to this day, I refuse to wear one…’cause I’m not a wussie…)…
And I’ve never been in a bicycle accident, because I value my cranium more than anything…
This is yet another form of traditional wisdom that has been turned upside down on its head (pardon the pun)…and I always noticed those helmets block a little bit of wide peripheral vision…
Why am I not surprised by this fact…? Have you noticed any “traditional wisdom” in your own life that your own experience contradicts and proves flat out wrong…?
(Disclaimer: This same fact does not hold true for motorcycles…this is due to the “speed of travel” difference between the two activities…)

Full faced helmets are way more safe and they even tell you in safety courses that everybody should wear full faced helmets. Why don’t cops on motorcycles do this? In fact, why don’t they wear other protective gear like motocycle jackets, pants, etc?

Here in Ontario there has been an issue concerning Sikhs who are unwilling to put a helmet on (over, or in place of) their turban when riding a motorcycle. Helmets are mandatory in Ontario when riding a motorcycle, but Sikhs claim that it is religious discrimination, that it is inappropriate to cover their turban.
We’ve heard this argument ’til we’re sick of it.
Frankly, I don’t care if he wants to wear a helmet or not. If he wants to ride a motorcycle wearing only a turban on his head, fine with me. I don’t believe he is endangering anybody else.
I think it is like a lifejacket when boating or waterskiing. It is like using ropes when rock climbing. If a solo climber wants to spider-climb a big wall and risk plunging to his death, that’s his problem.
It think that if a Sikh guy cares more about his turban than his personal safety, or he wants to trust his God(s) to keep him safe, fine with me.

I’ve just started biking.. and my helmet looks really big on my body, I’m not big.. 5′8. So.. do the external dimensions of helmets vary? would a more expensive helmet made from more sophisticated materials be smaller in external dimensions? or are they much the same?
