Arai or Shoei, anything above £250. Most racers wear these brands.
I think it was Shinya Nakano who had a blow out at 180mph a couple of years back and landed on his head - his Arai did the job though no head injuries. (needed a new helmet tho'!! :o) )

I believe helmets for Europe and the USA are the same.
Cycle world did a test and found the $60 Helmets worked as well as the $400 helmets. If you hit your head hard enough they should all shatter to disperse the energy and reduce the brain trama.

i bought a cheap nitro helmet for £50 a couple of weeks ago n its been tested already, I stopped at traffic lights n the car behind failed to stop, im not sure what speed it hit my scooter at (Sanben Gladiator 125 Cruiser Quite Heavy, takes my weight of around 120kg easily and upto 150kg) The scooter bounced about 3.5 metres, i landed a couple of metres ahead of that. I dont really remember but i stood up instantly to make sure the driver wasnt hurt n scooter wasnt too badly damaged then someone lifted my helmet from the road wich had 2 small dents on it. I came out of that crash with a sore back either from the impact or twisting as i was flying but no sore head so I'm quite happy with my cheap helmet!

Get a carbon fiber model. They seem to have excellent ratings!!
Your best bet would be a corbon fiber model with a hidden layer of Kevylar. Kevylar, incase you don't know, is the same material used in bullet proof vests. If it can stop a bullet, i am sure it can protect your head!
Other than that, get a Shoei! They have the best rattings!

one of the answers says his £50 nitro helmet has already been tested in a crash. Someone picked it up off the road, obviously after it had come off his head. Don't buy one of these, the helmet is supposed to stay ON your head not come off until it is taken off. Always make sure that it is done up tight. Before buying try it on, strap it up. It should be a snug fit, almost uncomfortably so because the padding will give over time making it looser. Try twisting it around from side to side, it should move only a little. Buy a recognised brand & pay as much as you can afford, after all you only have one head. Dont forget gloves either, your hands will almost certainly go down in a crash & if there is no skin left, well................

A Rolls Royce with seatbelts and airbags. If you want to be totally safe, don't ride a motorcycle.
Any certified full face helmet is going to be protection, the best compared to barely making certification isn't really going to make you safer. Safety comes with a paranoid attitude about other drivers and anticipating road conditions.
Get a certified full face helmet that fits well and has cool graphics and then ride like your brain is worth protecting.

Arai. And here's why....
There are a number of different standards helmets get tested to in different parts of the world. All manufacturers - even Shoei - design their helmets to pass the local standard, which means that the same helmet sold in different countries can be built differently.
Arai start from the other end - how good can a helmet be made? It's taken for granted that they'll all pass the most stringent test (currently, I think, the USA Snell test), and by a considerable margin.
Actually, when you crash, it doesn't make that much difference whether you wear Arai or Nitro, so long as it fits right and you only bounce on your head once. The big difference comes in subsequent impacts - cheap helmets are destroyed in first impact but expensive ones (especially Arai) survive the first impact and continue to offer protection as you carry on bouncing down the road.
The other thing about expensive helmets is they're comfortable, which makes you a better rider because none of your concentration is wasted on the discomfort your lid is causing you. Which means you're less likely to test how good your helmet is!!
Hope this helps - and happy shopping!
